Crab Fundraiser

The annual all you can eat Sherwood High School (SHS) dungeness crab feed fundraiser & silent auction in Sherwood is underway. This much anticipated Sherwood event will again take place at the Sherwood Robin Hood Elks Lodge on Saturday, January 28th from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.

Get Your Tickets

Tickets are on sale now for $35 each for this all you can eat crab cracking feast! Come support a great cause, but hurry you’ll need those tickets so get yours before they’re all sold out! Tickets are available through any SHS baseball player, or by contacting info@sherwoodjuniorbaseball.com.

Ever since we were invited by some friends of ours, the Bowmen crab fundraiser has become an annual tradition for the Gardner family! We LOVE CRAB and look forward to attending again this year with some of our friends and family. Come join the fun, we hope to see you there!

They not only make a beautiful presentation on the counter in your kitchen or dining room table in your home, they’re fantastic to have and cook with.

To get you cookin’ here’s a few GREAT recipes for your Bean Pot

Beer Bread
3 cups of Self Rising Flour
1/4 cup of sugar
1 can of beer

Mix all the ingredients and bake at 350 degrees for 30 – 40 min. depending on size of pan or bowl using. This is great to bake in the Celebrating Home Bean Pot.

Taco Soup (Tonya’s Favorite)

1 Lb ground beef, cooked & drained

1 – 28 oz can kidney beans*

1 – 28 oz can diced tomatoes*

1 -14 oz can corn * (*DO NOT drain liquid)

Add all ingredients into the bean pot and cover.

Add 1-2 packets of taco seasoning OR 1 pkg Celebrating Home Southwestern Chipotle dip mix and stir.

Cook in microwave for 20 minutes.

Serve with sour cream, cheese and corn chips.

Chicken Stew

Place chicken breast in a Bean Pot.

Add 1 can chicken broth,

1 Can Cream of chicken and 1

pkg Onion Soup Mix.

Cook at 250 for at least 4 hours. Add string beans and pour over angel hair pasta.

Bachelors Roast

Place roast (about 3 lbs.) in Bean Pot

Pour 1 can of Coke

Spread 2 cups of catchup on top

Cover with the lid.

Cook for about 30 minutes per pound.

Optional: Add onions and pressed garlic.

Fall Fabulosity - Five ideas to freshen up your home

Autumn Decorating Ideas …. Continued:

1. For a fragrant treat, fill a ceramic bowl or a wood or wicker basket with oranges, lemons,pine-cones, nuts, and pieces of evergreen. Place the container just inside the front door for a special welcome home.

2. Decorate a wreath for your front door with clusters of berries, ornamental grasses, and other fall finds. Purchase a wreath form at a local crafts store, then simply attach the berries and grasses with wire or hot glue.

3. Lead trick-or-treater’s to your door or dinner guests to the back patio with country luminaries made with old glass jars. Put a bit of sand in the jar and set a small candle in the sand. Line the sidewalk with the luminaries or even hang them from trees with wire. If you plan ahead, you can also order battery operated tea-light candles which are perfect for projects like this. Battery operated tea-light candles are also safe to use in paper bag projects.

4. Make an autumn garland for your mantle with colorful apples. Use an awl or knitting needle to pierce through the apples from side to side. Pull twine through the hole and knot it to hold the apple in place. Spice up the display by alternating apples with gourds, walnuts, or leaves.

5. Accent a door or wall with a swag of Indian corn. Use twine to connect the ears, knotting the twine after adding each ear. Tuck in pressed maple leaves for even more color. Then loop the twine at the top to hang.

The Gardner Boys: Tyler, Mason and Gavon have taken on a fundraiser to help find a cure for cancer. All proceeds raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s Sherwood Relay For Life 2011 (Team Liam).

They are selling these cool bracelets in “Relay Purple” which symbolizes every type of cancer for just $2 each. You can get yours on Saturday August 6th at the Sherwood High School during the 2011 Relay for Life Event. Come down anytime, we “Sherwood” love for you to experience it, even if only for a minute to get your bracelet. Their teams mission as stated on the bracelet: We “Sherwood” Love to Find a Cure.

About Relay for Life 2011

Join us this Saturday August 6th at 10:00am & Sunday August 7th at 10:00am at Sherwood High School for the 2011 Relay for Life of Sherwood!

There’s an amazing list of entertainment and activities lined up for everyone at this year’s event. As always, our Relay kicks off with Opening Ceremonies followed by the Survivor Lap. The Silent Auction (chaired by Team Liam) opens at noon on Saturday with auctions closing at 2:30, 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30.

The Sherwood YMCA will be hosting the Kid’s Zone from 11am – 7pm with fun activities for kids of all ages. Catch Zumba Dance with Brynn Sylvester at 11:00am Saturday, and the unforgettable ‘Miss-ter’ Relay contest at 3:00pm on Saturday (Our oldest son Tyler is a great sport and will be participating in Miss-ter’ Relay for the second year in a row).

Great Main Stage entertainers will be Matt Buhler at Noon on Saturday, Joseph Conty at 5:00pm and Radiyo Silence at 8:00pm. Don’t miss the moving Luminaria Ceremony at 10:00pm. And of course you can check out the schedule of events to find out more!

Grand opening in June 2011, the brand new Wings & Waves Waterpark is debuted on Monday, June 6. This new attraction is next to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, one of the greatest collections of aircraft and space artifacts in the world. It’s been said that both the Waterpark and the Museum distinguish McMinnville as a premier location for learning about the power of science — and at Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark, children and adults will learn why “life needs water.”

The waterpark will offer 10 waterslides, a wave pool and a children’s museum dedicated to teaching students about the power of water. The facility features nearly 70,000-square-feet of educational fun, highlighted by a massive Evergreen International Aviation Boeing 747 that rests on the top of the building. Throughout the structure, waterpark visitors will learn about the power of water and its effects on society through dozens of interactive exhibits and learning tools. Touch – Fill your home with fabrics and upholstery that comfort. Chenille throws, silk sheets, Cotton linens and towels, fluffy pillows, down comforters, plush sofas – you will know if it’s right just by touch. When shopping for fabrics or upholstered furniture run your hands across the surface. Ask yourself “How does it feel?” and “How does it make me feel”?

Sight- Lovely things make us happy that’s why we strive to create a visually pleasing home environment. For some of us that means using soothing colors and neutrals while to others it means using vibrant colors. The key is to choose decorative pieces and color palettes that fit your personality so that when you look at your home it brings you joy. This Crescent Moon and Fusion artwork is a great example of that.

Smell – We like things that smell good hence the multi-billion dollar home fragrance and perfume industry. Fragrances play a very special part in making us feel at home they can make us feel warm and comfortable as Vanilla does or whisk us away to exotic places as does the combination of mango and citrus or make us think of the Christmas holidays as do the scents of baked apple pie (cider), evergreen (Christmas Trees) and hot cinnamon roll (fresh cinnamon rolls baking). The Sherwood Saturday Market will run every Saturday in Old Town Sherwood from 9 am to 1 pm from May through September. The Sherwood Saturday Market offers a lovely market experience with fresh farm stands, great food, arts and crafts and so much more. Cruisin Sherwood Car Show 2011

Cruisin Sherwood Car Show 2011 is set for Saturday, June 11th 2011 in Old Town Sherwood. The event runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and is slated to be the “coolest car show to date!”

Gates open for pre-registration at 5:00 am. “Day of event cars” can start coming in at 6:00 am – click here for exact details

This years car show is brought to you by Innovations In Management (IIM) and the Sherwood Chamber of Commerce. The Gardner Team proud to have the opportunity to participate with the community and be an annual sponsor of this and other Sherwood events. There’s said to be about 550 hot rods, classics, collector cars and customs lining the streets of Old Town. There’s even a special section of military vehicles which kids always love to see. Q: Where’s the Most Important Place To Start Decorating?
A: Entry Way/Front Door (First Impression)

Tip: Add seasonal color to your beds or pots. Choose something welcoming to hang from your door.

Q: Second Most Important Place to Decorate?
A: Bathroom (What do you remember most about a bathroom? The shower curtain & medicine cabinet?)

Tip: Create a beautiful, yet practical space – paint, design and decorate with mirrors, prints, space savers and style.

Q: How High Should I Hang My Groupings or Prints?
A: No More Then 12 Inches Above What You Are Hanging Above.

Tip: Make a template of each piece to be hung, trace around the outside of the frame on kraft paper, cut and stick to wall.

Q: How Far Apart Should I Hang My Accessories?
A: 1-2 Inches …. But know more then the width of your hand.

Tip: Sconces and lighting is one of the most important elements of home decor as they set the ambiance of the room.

Q: Is There Any Room I Shouldn’t Decorate?
A: No. Every room is an opportunity to express your personality and personal style.

Tip: Create an inspiration binder of things you love. Cutouts from magazines and printouts from websites.

Q: Where Should I Place Greenery?
A: Anywhere! Greenery is the most common item people leave out of there decor….but it is the most important to add in.

Tip: Placing plants throughout your home helps add natural color, texture, and appeal. Don’t forget to use attractive plant pots as they are an important home decor accessory too!

Q: Where Should I Start Decorating In Each Room?
A: The focal point of any room is at eye level so start on the wall.

Tip: Add artful accents through the use of a mirrors and prints. Mirrors add simulated light and depth, while artwork adds color and texture to your landscape.
