Top 50 Sustainable Cities in the Nation Reveled - "Portland Oregon #1, 2008"

Breaking News:

Portland Oregon does it again... Yet another year in a row they've topped the list as the most sustainable city in the United States.

SustainLane.com has ranked the 50 biggest American cities in order of their environmental and social sustainability. (Portland has been No. 1 since the survey began in 2005.)

"Sustainable" is of course a term that is notoriously ambiguous, so you may want to check out the requirements of their study on their site.  After reviewing it myself, I found a variety of factors being taken into account from air quality, city innovation, green economy, housing affordability, local food & transportation to name a few.

Their study overview and methodology are all great indicators as to what makes the Portland Oregon area such a wonderful place to vacation and live now and in the future.

Portland is one of the most beautiful cities - and this is no surprise to me - raising my kids for 10 years in Sellwood - I know that there are always things going on to help make the city more beautiful - more sustainable - great local info -

Congratulations!

I've been to Portland and I loved it there.

It feels good to know that the place you call home is recognized in such a good light.

Greetings Thesa and Craig,

Thank you for sharing your experiences here in the Portland Oregon Area.  We may have 40 inches of rain in a year, but you can't beat the beauty.
