We've all been there, wishing we could be a fly on the wall or wondering what people are thinking. While we're not phychic and nor do we have a crystal ball, we can tell you that we do our homework and have an understanding of what home-buyers are thinking when it comes to their motivation in purchasing a home. Thanks to detailed studies recently conducted by the National Association of Realtors, we're going to answer that question for you...
The 2009 report outlines the primary reasons first-time home-buyers (FTHB) and repeat buyers (RB) purchase a home -
Here's the TOP 5 Reasons First-Time Buyers and Repeat Buyers Buy Homes

"Desire to own a home."
Always has been and probably always be the #1 reason folks buy rather than rent.
It appears that the percentage of folks who DESIRE to own is almost at the level of actual home ownership percentage.
What a surprise.
Great Post! We have got to educate our clients as much as we are educating themselves.... An educated client puts out a good product before we are even introduced:)
Those who can least afford it, desire it more than those who can afford to own.....that's where our problems began.....everyone should not own, but the majority of people want to own.
Many prospective home buyers are worried about their job security and are hoping for more stable times before they purchase. It is too bad that many of them will miss the opportunity to take advantage of the low interest rates and the home buyer tax credit.
Are you guys trying to catch up on your blogging all in one day:) The percentages noted are not surprising.
Thanks ALL!!
Yes, Bill - You got me, I am! Trying to figure out how to make AR, WP, Posterous and all the others work in one place... I'm sure it's just a matter of time ☺
Wishing you ALL the best!!
