Some days are shaped by simple pleasures, while others are redeemed by them. This week is about doing something we'd only dream about doing if we only had the time. It's simply to beautiful to let these sunny days pass... Enjoy them while they last!

To help, my 8 year old son and I came up with some family friendly ideas that we can do to enjoy some Summer fun in Sherwood Oregon, and take advantage of this heat-wave while we have it.  Here's our TOP 10 list of things to do... We hope you enjoy them and look forward to any comments of ideas you have to share too.

1.  Visit Sherwood's Snyder/Sunset Park - It's fun to play in the Water park and sandbox.  There's covered areas and many shade trees to escape the sun if needed!

2.  Go to Sherwood Baskin Robbins and chill out with a couple scoops of your favorite ice-cream!

3.  Invite some friends over to play in the hose, sprinkler, kiddy pool, the slip n' slide or have a water balloon fight.  Good clean fun that makes the top of the free list!

(Shop in Sherwood- You can stop by Mud Puddles Toys & Books, Al's Garden Center, Home Depot or Target in Sherwood for some of these items)

4.  Go swimming at the Sherwood YMCA and play on the water-slide - It may be indoors, but it's lined with windows and tons of fun!

5.  Try out Ice Skating at the Sherwood Ice Arena - A hot summer day is a perfect excuse to hit the ice!

6.  Walk around Old Town Sherwood and enjoy the shops - A bit of meandering and window shopping always does some good... A little bite at a local cafe or bistro, even better!

7.  Head down to Old Town Sherwood to the Public Library for some rest and relaxation with books, movies and a little A/C...

8.  Go to the Sherwood Regal Cinemas for a fun summer flick.  It's always a cool place to go.  Let's not forget about the Free Family Film Festival on Tuesdays and Wednesdays!

9.  Be one with nature at the Tualatin National Wildlife Refuge. Check out the exhibits and indoor and outdoor viewing areas.  Learn a little history about our beautiful area and view life from a different perspective!

10.  Pack a picnic, pick up a book or grab some board games.  Sometimes just sitting around whether indoors or out is a refreshing way to spend the day!

We've reached the half-way mark for 2009, and a point that starts the official count-down for the $8,000 firt-time home buyer tax credit -

To qualify for the credit, the purchase must be made between Jan. 1, 2009 and Nov. 30, 2009. Buyers may not have owned a home for the past three years to qualify as "first time" buyer. They must also live in the house for at least three years, or they will be obligated to pay back the credit.  Additionally, there are income restrictions: To qualify, buyers must make less than $75,000 for singles or $150,000 for couples. (Higher-income buyers may receive a partial credit.)

Announced this week at BusinessWeek.com, Real Estate Professionals should remind potential home buyers of the obvious, "Now is the time to buy, but that opportunity may be slipping away..."

For many, the dream of home-ownership is well within reach.  Mortgage rates are low, home prices are at historic lows, and the government is offering never seen before incentives for first-time home buyers.

While the inventory of homes to buy is still large, the levels are in fact shrinking.  According to the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, the housing inventory peaked in November 2008 at an 11-month supply. At the end of May 2009, it had fallen to a 9.6-month supply...

It's time for fun at the Sherwood Oregon Robin Hood Festival. 

Every year during the third weekend of July, Sherwood Oregon celebrates a piece of our towns legondary history during the annual Robin Hood Festival.  A fun filled event that's been held every single year since 1952.

This weekend, we invite you to come enjoy the fun, food, music, dancing, arts, crafts, shopping, contests and festival Parade.  The fun starts tomorrow, Friday, July 17th with a full schedule on Saturday - See the Robin Hood event schedule here.

The Robin Hood Legend belongs to the downtrodden. The businessmen of Sherwood Oregon U.S.A. were feeling downtrodden in the years immediately following World War II. The town's economy was drying up. The main road didn't go through town. There was a three way crossing on Highway 99 called Six Corners.

It was starting to draw business away from the historic core. But the romantic little town of Sherwood refused to give up. Inspired by the recent re-release of the 1938 Robin Hood classic, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Sherwood's town-fathers took the Legend and made it the most successful public relations venture in the town's history.

If you ask a Sherwood senior citizen to name the person who invented the Sherwood Oregon Robin Hood Festival, the answer will invariably be, "I did!"  It seems everybody invented it all at once.  One story we heard is typical.  Floyd Johnson owned the newspaper. While Floyd still lived in Tigard, he used to ride the bus to Six Corners, get off the bus, and walk the mile or so to his printing office in Sherwood.

Each day the bus driver would shout "Sherwood." Johnson would ring the bell to get off. Someone would look around and shout, "Robin Hood?" The quip always got a laugh. It also gave Floyd something to think about during those long walks into town. The Robin Hood icon is free. It excites people around the world. He floated the idea of having a Robin Hood Festival in his newspaper, the "Sherwood Valley News." A crew of World War II veterans (Elks and Kiwanis mostly) rolled up their sleeves and dyed their long johns green and showed up at movie houses wherever the Robin Hood movie was showing. The crowds enjoyed seeing them so much that they were invited back. Not only that. They were asked to appear at small town festivals all around Portland.

The rest is history!

This weekend my oldest son and I dined at Sherwood Station Bistro in Old Town Sherwood for some lunch.  It's a fun atmosphere with a flare of traditional diner charm.  The have quite the set up, catering to what every community wants - friendly service and options, and that's just what you'll find.

Viki, the owner of the Sherwood Station Bistro in Old Town Sherwood Oregon has been running a successful catering business for about 20 years right here from Sherwood, you may have heard of it... "It's Party Time Catering & BBQ."  She does everything from weddings to events and gives back to the community in many ways.  In fact, Viki and "It's Party Time Catering & BBQ" will be sponsoring this years Sherwood Community Relay for Life Suvivor Luncheon.  "Thank You Viki"

In need of more space and a commercial kitchen, Viki took up shop at what was previously Cosmic Pizza.  As people in the community got word of Viki's plans to use this spot as her catering destination, the community asked for more.  Of course we all wanted another place to dine and in beautiful Old Town Sherwood.  Viki responded to the communities request adding "Sherwood Station Bistro" to her venue. 

Right now the Bistro is open for breakfast and lunch from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.  On Sunday's from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. you can stop by for an "All You Can Eat" Sunday Buffet, so make sure to add that to your list of things to do in Sherwood.  The Sherwood Station Bistro has everything from friendly home-town service, a generous menu, an ice-cream parlor area, lots of counter space lined with stools and spacious booths for larger gatherings, classic decor, the aroma of good food, freshly made desserts and waffle cones and in the back, an area just for kids sporting an XBox and Guitar Hero ready to play.

Our recent shopping experience at Going Off Skate Shop in Sherwood Oregon...

There's something special about Old Town Sherwood, Oregon.  Over the past few weeks we've been spending quite a bit of time down there.  Recently, "Going Off" Skateboard Shop set up shop in Old Town.  They have a fun store in the old Baseball Card spot by U.S. Bank.  They're all stocked up on all types of boards and supplies in the store.  You can even walk-in and build your own board based on your personal style and specifications.  Placing a special order was even an option for us.

Our 8 year old son chose to build a trick board as a reward for his outstanding end-of-year report card.  He's pretty proud of the board he built with the help and expertise of "Going Off" Skate Shop in Old Town Sherwood and he's excited about the idea of a new skate park coming to Sherwood as well.  While you're out and about in Sherwood, you should check out the new "Going Off" Skate Shop in Old Town and while you're there, they have a petition they'd love for you to sign to help support the plans for a skate park they'd like to see come to town right here in Sherwood.  They were so great, we're headed back to see them for a long board for our oldest son.
